Morong + Subic 2010 Day 1

okay where to start... XD

well just this past weekend was holy week, and we as a family really don't do the christian Filipino traditions and instead use this long weekend (since Maundy Thursday, good Friday, and black Saturday are non-working holidays) to go out of town, usually to a beach resort.

So this year we decided to go to Morong Bataan, a provincial region some 2-4 hours north of the capital city Manilla. Days before this trip I was adamant to going since I weren't on good terms with my two younger brothers, and that I wanted to be alone. Holy Week is one of the rare occassions that the whole family is gone for a day and I am a person who prefers to be home alone. I just like the silence that much I guess. What made me change my mind is that I'd get to see different stuff for a change (lol) and break away from the routine of SSDD (Same Shit Different Day).
So the day came - Friday, April 2, 2010. I didn't sleep since I'm a nocturnal and if I slept and wake up at 5 in the morning that would be more trouble for me rather than just staying awake :P So I finished my Lire Valkyrie fan art and when 5:30 AM struck I woke my parents up to get things started. So everything went by smoothly and we left the house at around 8 AM. We were supposed to be at the resort she had as a reservation at around 1 PM.

As this is Good Friday, and in the Philippines, traveling especially towards the provinces will be anything but dull. Since we didn't take the expressway to the Subic Bay (which was at Olongapo, Bataan, and near to Morong), we encountered lots of people doing their panata, their way of sacrifice aside from the usual fasting and abstinence from meat, in thanks to Jesus Christ dying for our sins.

But in this country tradition can be a bit extreme. What we saw on the way as we traversed through the towns of Pampanga were people whipping their backs with several cylindrical wooden sticks (about probably 6-7 inches long on average) that were tied to a rope. I think it was called antipo? I'm not sure I forgot. They walk for long distances, under the heat of the sun while doing this. There were even some blood that splattered onto our vehicle as these roads were usually narrow and we moved slowly.

And there were even other people who imitated what Jesus did before reaching Calvary -  carry a large wooden cross. And what these people carried were no mere planks. They were logs tied to form the cross and the size was big enough for them to be crucified onto. A lot of the people we saw doing this suddenly collapsed and the other people behind him who whip his back or look after him quickly rush to them.

The other peculiar thing I noticed during the journey was the amount of roadkill we saw ._. First was a dead cat a some blocks away from home, then there was a dead rat along the EDSA road (biggest main road leading to the highways going north), then a dead kitten and another dead cat while going through the provincial towns, and there was still another dead cat on the way back home (on a different route so it does count, lol ._.) Oh and we got a bit lost when finding the resort. They didn't really have 'this way' arrow signs unlike the others we saw ~_~

Though before we got to the resort we stopped over at Subic Bay and went to Subic Royal, a duty-free store :D Though I gotta tell you that that place looks like trash compared to how it looked like almost 20 years ago when the whole SBMA area was not open to the public and required connections to be invited in. Back then the place gave you that feel that you were in the US lol. So we were there and bought some stuff and some chocolates XD and continued on to Morong.

When we arrived at the resort (called Morong Star Beach Resort) we were liking what we were seeing so far. So we then entered our room at the second floor of one of several condominium-type buildings. Ours our think was furthest from the shore so no waves to greet you in the morning :( Well we'll only stay for a night only XD Anyway we checked out the beach, and it was nice, aside from the blaring sound systems of some of the guests there. Then a man approached us and offered a boat ride to the pawikan (sea turtle) conservation center and a white sand beach that was at the very far end of the beach's left side. Walking towards there would probably take more than an hour lol. My mother asked for the price and tried to haggle, but then we just got there so we postponed it for the next day.

When we settled our things inside our room we talked about the place and my father mentioned that when the trip was over we should have made peace with each other (referring to us three boys XD). But that didn't happen. No point in holding that for the last part of this entry, is there? lol. Anyway, it was my chance to sleep XD So i did just that. I don't really want to go swimming in that heat and get sunburned (no I don't think a few handfuls of sunscreen would be enough to protect you especially that the sun is a lot more hellish due to global warming).

I woke up at around 2:30 PM and Mom said that we'd be boat riding at 3:30. Apparently they were able to haggle after all. We were like "yay turtlez!!1" (no not really lol). So we went to the beach, put on the life vests given to us, and boarded the boat. It was a small fishing boat, so excluding the two people on both ends, it could probably hold about 10 persons. The sea was a lot wavy then and I got a bit dizzy as I was trying to see the bottom of the sea (no pun intended).

After about probably half an hour we arrived at the sea turtle conservation center. The entrance fee was pretty cheap (20 PHP so about 50 cents in USD?). We thought we'd see a lot in the place but all there is were just a stone display of sea turtles, a 'hatching' area where there was a single hole (probably man-made but I'm not an expert on that lol), a few baby turtles you could put on your palm for pictures and such, and a pool with 3 grown sea turtles. All that in a relatively small area :| It was a bit disappointing but seeing a live sea turtle up-close is rewarding too. I just felt kind of guilty at the turtles when I saw the people lifting the sea turtles out of the water and holding them for several minutes just for their pictures. Well I hope that the money they get is spent on caring for them. Anyway I saw on TV that the place is lively during the Pawikan Festival, which is probably during the breeding season of the sea turtles. I also saw on TV that there were large numbers of baby sea turtles being released to the sea. So that trip to the 'center' was pretty short.

fake and real turtles yay!!!1

It was time for our next destination, the supposedly white sand beach that was further off. The driver said that we should just go to the white coral area (more like dead coral ~_~) since the waves are strong and it would be tough to get there. But since the deal was to go there my father insisted. So we boarded the boat but alas, the waves got into the boat AND the motor that propels it.

that piece of land on the horizon was where we were next to go, supposedly

After about 10 minutes of trying to start the boat we were told to go back to shore so they could focus more on solving the problem. We thought we were gonna be stranded there. We could walk but it would kill our feet since the resort was so far off its like a plankton on the horizon ._. We even thought of riding a public transport on the other side of the center and have it take us to the resort. But we waited there. Then after an hour or so they finally fixed it. But the waves were still strong and there were even other people who helped out in stabilizing the boat as we boarded it. It was like lots of people pushing a car to get it started lol. So yeah, the ride back to the resort was mostly rough due to the waves but as we got towards the end of it the waves calmed and we got to see a beautiful sunset.

When we got back to our room we took a shower and by the time we were all done it was around 8 in the evening. Since the management told us that our room was a 'no-meal' room we were not allowed (supposedly) to bring food that we could cook. Well we did bring snacks and sandwiches and some drinks, but no dinner and breakfast, so we decided to go the restaurant.

When we arrived at the restaurant we sat and took some pictures (lol) then a waiter approached and apologized that they won't be able to serve us because the kitchen ran out of food to cook, yeah we were like WTF. Then the waiter called someone else but this guy said that they will not be able to serve us because they are busy serving this company that was also a guest in the resort. Now my father got angry and complained saying all sorts of things. I don't really want to go into detail because its kind of embarassing and lulzy XD But my father had a point - they can't do that to a customer :|

So anyway while this was happening my mother and 2 brothers wandered to the nearby playground to take more pictures. I went there and told mom what happened. Frustrated, we went back to our room. Well we still have some sandwiches so whatever XD Then minutes after we were inside the room talking about this ridiculous situation and the other mishaps that happened during the day, someone knocked on the door.

Apparently it was one of the managers of the resort apologizing for what happened and explaining their side, saying that they weren't able to anticipate the amount of people (which is a poor excuse IMO, since some locals my father got to talk to while being stranded said that every holy week the resort is full) Of course my father was still infuriated and the manager took some serious heat XD Then he said that they'll cook what is available. In the end my two brothers got to eat tapsilog (tapa - beef cutlets, sinangag - stir fried rice w/ garlic, and itlog - egg) and hotsilog (hotdog with sinangag and itlog lol). And it was on the house, too XD (We tried to pay for it but the manager insisted) I on the other hand didn't order because I was kind of embarrassed by the situation, thinking "I don't want people cooking my food with ill feelings" or something like that XD So I settled for bread and canned sausages XD

i try not to think if they put something else in these @_@ oh well its been several days from the time it was consumed and nothing seems wrong with the two that ate these

Anyway after eating we brushed our teeth and slept early, it was around 10 PM then. Good thing I was able to sleep even if the hypocrites outside who abstain from eating meat yet play music like they're having a party have their loud speakers on throughout the night. :D That and we wanted to wake up early XD

Update?

heh. haven't been here for quite a while. hmm. yep still unmotivated to continue chronicling, among other things that need my attention :|

Anyway, a lot of deviations done since last post here.

We have a new dog, a male Labrador-Retriever named Sebastian :D He's so cute and so much more energetic and responsive compared to Nene (our other Labrador-Retriever, and a female), but that's probably because Sebastian is only about a year old while Nene is around 9 years old :( Anyway here's a pic of him XD

We had to install a gate so that instead of them being tied they could roam around inside. We can't always let them beyond the gate because they create chaos lol. Earlier this afternoon when I opened the gate to get their drinking bowl Sebastian sneaked out and toppled over the shoe rack XD

Regarding gaming, well I'm not really playing much, the most recent games I finished are Time Hollow on the DS and KH Re: CoM (with exception of 100% card collection) on the PS2. I think I'll be playing all those DS games I DL'ed off the net instead of playing MMOs? I'm currently playing Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume :D

dA Update 003 Etc.

okay so 4 new ones since last update, from oldest to newest:

As always, comments regarding these are on my dA page :)

On other news, I haven't been playing online games for quite a while now, so I think I'd stick to chronicling my past experiences from the ones I've played. So far I've only scratched the surface. I don't want to continue doing it right now for a number of reasons that probably no one needs to know. Until I get the courage and peace of mind to continue chronicling, I'll only put in dA updates and other stuff, perhaps video game reviews?

and no, I didn't have a "Merry Christmas" and I doubt I'll have a "Happy New Year" :|

The Ever-Present Procrastination

*sigh* I'm bored shitless right now. I'm not playing any MMOs since I quit Granado Espada, though I've been considering going back to GrandChase. The propect of new dungeons, new jobs and a new character may sound nice but its kinda boring to play without someone to regularly talk to or have a friendly match in-game.

Console-wise, I've finished Persona 4 and it was amazing, though I think I need to take a breather before doing it all over again (new game +). So I played Tomb Raider Legend but the DVD's worth shit and it stops working by the end of the motorcycle scenario on the 2nd stage (Peru). So I went to the next best thing and played Tomb Raider Underworld. This one was nice but I can't help but feel disappointed at how short and easy it was compared to Tomb Raider II and III :( Anyway there are a lot of other PS2 games that haven't been played through yet, so I don't know what I'll be gunning for next XD

Deviation-wise, well I've revamped two old ones and posted them on dA. I made a list of what I should do next, but as always, procrastination kicked in. I have a lot of options yet I can't pick a single one lol.

I could continue writing my chronicles but I need that certain spark to get my thoughts straight XD So instead I'm here blogging about what's going on in my head right now. Oh yeah did I say that I'm bored shitless? Maybe I should look for pr0n LOL XD

The Two Themes

ou may have already heard of this, but there's been a buzz pertaining to Final Fantasy XIII. Sure everyone's excited about the game, but the current rage is regarding the theme song.

You see, for the NA and Europe release of FF XIII, Square-Enix chose Leona Lewis's "My Hands" from her album "Echo" as the theme song. The Japanese theme song is entitled "Kimi Ga Iru Kara" and sung by Sayuri Sugawara. Now people are split regarding this decision. Here are the two songs (that I saw on youtube) and hear for yourself.

"Kimi Ga Iru Kara" sung by Sayuri Sugawara:

"My Hands" sung by Leona Lewis:

As for me? To be honest "My Hands" is a very good song, but for me it kinda doesn't fit. Unless they actually use an orchestral version instead of this one then I'd have no qualms about it. The tune of "Kimi Ga Iru Kara" kinda grew on me since I've heard it repeatedly while watching the trailers. I hope they use both or at least make an english version of this one. They were able to pull it off with FF X-2's 1000 Words so I don't see a reason why they shouldn't do it again ._.

Farewell to the New World, among other things

*sigh* It'd be only natural for anyone to get tired and bored of something once they reach a roadblock. In my case, the appeal of Granado Espada has been lost for several reasons:

1. I got addicted (and still am) to Persona 4 lol.
2. I don't have enough money to buy the items I need so that I could pass the lvl 100 barrier and continue leveling up and questing with my three main characters.
3. Seeing as this game is really expensive (well all games are but this one's really way up there) if you want to maximize your enjoyment out of it, I think I'll be staying clear from it for now.
4. My PC specs are actually crappy for this game, so I'd probably go back when I've upgraded :D

I just want to say thank you to Summerscent from the Rembrandt server who was really kind enough to help me transfer stuff from my cash cow account (that is now dry XD) to my main account. Without him/her I wouldn't have had the chance to acquire Irawan, Catherine, and Claire :D

On other news, FF XIII will be available on Dec. 17! Wish I could understand japanese though; That and a cool (albeit girly) Lightning Edition PS3 8D I've read somewhere that the english version will be out around may next year.

This game looks to be promising what with the amazing graphics and the new battle system. Though there would probably be a lot of naysayers regarding the transforming summons, which is by the way, over-the-top coolness IMO XD Plotwise, it looks like its not a disappointment like that of FF XII. I just hope that it won't be an emo-fest since there was a lot of drama on the trailers I saw. If you haven't checked them out yet, here's a link to the japanese website:

And now I leave you with an image of the first (and hopefully not the last) twelve members of the Tenebroso family :D

The Story So Far

Hi. Lol what a way to start XD The idea of blogging my adventures through the different cyber worlds I've been through has been bugging me for the past few days and now that I'm actually doing it I don't know what to put in. Well I guess these things take time, which is okay, 'coz I have a lot of that right now (too much even).

I guess I'll start off with an overview of what MMOs I've played / been playing. The very first MMO I played, like most of the people here in the Philippines, was Ragnarok Online, which was launched here around july 2003, around the same time I started my college life. This game actually made it easier for me to make friends (in the real world of course), and made it easier for my wallet to dry out XD

The oldest screenshot i could find of my RO days. Sadly, the older ones were lost :(

Then around 2 years later, i think, came the launch of Rising Force Online (RF Online). At the time the only 3D MMORPGS i know of where FF XI Online and WOW XD. And the setting was unique, siding with 1 of 3 races that are at war with each other; I definitely had to try it out. I had a lot of fun in that game as well, so much that I became inactive in RO. Though I had to quit around May the year after (2006) because I needed to focus on my on-the-job training and thesis, not to mention the fact that I felt alienated in the guild that I co-founded (my other co-founders whom i knew iRL quit XD)

First RF Screenshot lol

It was about at this time that I started playing O2Jam, which was an online rhythm game, and was kind of like stepmania where you had to press the corresponding key at the right moment, so that the melody you'd hear would sound right. I think I only have one screenshot of that game because most of the time I played on internet cafes outside the office during lunch break XD I think that was also the reason I got hacked in RO lol.

Not even a screenshot, just my avatar. I must've deleted it ._.

Let's see... Ah yes. Well I remember I stuck with O2Jam until after graduation since I don't want to go back and get addicted to MMORPGS again (yeah right XD). But I yielded to the evil (lol) and decided to try something new. It wasn't really new in the market but I decided to try it anyway since it had a unique school setting to it. Yes, Ran Online XD I don't remember how long I've been in this game though, but I remember I got to lvl 85 I think? Anyway it was fun while it lasted but our crappy dial-up connection back then discouraged me from continuing on playing it ._.

This wasn't even my screenshot, it was just given to me. I wonder why I didn't take any back then? ._.

So after my short time from that game I think I went back to RO to start a new adventure on the server where most of my iRL friends were. We were all in a guild called Annihilation back then. I think the guild is kind of dead now but the friendship is still strong to this day :D Anyway I enjoyed this second RO life much more because of the guild (questing / power leveling with guild mates, siege battles XD).

Then around july-august 2007 there were these two new games that appeared. Granado Espada and Pefect World. I was actually getting bored with RO, despite the fun and challenge of being an int-type ninja, but the Multiple Character Control system of GE and the amazing landscape of PW piqued my interest. When I tried GE I learned that after the open beta period the game would go P2P and that I had little time to earn free 2 months for my account. I had to lvl my party to lvl 20 before the OBT period ends. I didn't make it XD

First decent-ish screenshot of the Mescherchmidt family from who-knows-what server back then.

So I gunned for Perfect World instead XD This game was amazing with its features and graphics. But I only lasted around 8 months! Why? Coz it was so expensive! Even if it was free-to-play you'd have no choice to top-up if you want to continue leveling once you get near the high-level tier. Still, the friendships i made and the times I spent admiring the landscape are priceless XD

First screenshot yet again. My low-end rig does not do justice to the eye-candy it could give >_<

After that I went back to RF to try to start anew, but the game was so different from the first time I played it. I only got so far as lvl 41. It was not newbie-friendly at all. That and there were a lot of jerks even w/in your own race. But destiny made me quit before I decided to. Our broadband + phone line got cut off and the next time I was able to go online at home was december last year. This time I was looking for something new, again XD At first I planned on playing Nostale PH but I ended up downloading the client for GrandChase instead. I actually got addicted to this game because of its graphics and side-scrolling action gameplay. But it was a game that could get lonely since it was on an instance basis. I don't know if things changed now, but last august there were a lot of people using third-party programs that enabled them to finish dungeons in a minute or so where it would normally take of up to about half an hour. Plus my friend iRL stopped playing :| So I quit too.

Yep, the default character is a girl. Elesis, the tomboy-ish swordsman. You get to unlock the other characters as you progress though.

I also got to try out Exteel SEA when it launched its CBT phase, but only for a day. I got tired trying to connect to the game. Our broadband connection's always fucked up and can't enter some sites, even if I restart the connection <_< Its a FPS game wherein you control mechs, so expect it to be cool. I had several screenshots of it but I forgot to copy the folder when I uninstalled it ~_~ At around February of this year, the same time I was playing GCPH, Rohan PH was launched here. Like always I decided to try it out. I only lasted through the whole CBT phase. At first I liked it, but it became quite mediocre for my tastes later on, as the grinding steadily made its presence. But the real let-down for me was the fact that it was difficult to be a support character here, and the constant threat of getting PK'ed is annoying. And I was still committed to playing GC at the time XD

wow the first day of CBT was my birthday lol.

From mid-August until now, I am exploring the world of Granado Espada, again. I didn't use my old account, just because. XD Now I am pioneering under the name of the Tenebroso family in GESEA's Rembrandt server :D

Long story short: I am two-bit, half-baked wanderer XD

Whew what a summary. I guess I'll get to start telling my RO days next.

cout<<"Hello World!!";

Woot. Why, hello there. XD

I've been procra- err i mean thinking about starting this for a long time and now after an hour of surfing I've finally done it. lol.

What i'll be posting here will be my chronicles from the MMOs i played and the one I'm playing now, updates from dA, sometimes game / book reviews (i liked doing that back on my first blog, which will not be named as it is long dead XD), and occasionally (hopefully) pieces of my life lol.

Although it'll take time for me to update, as i am an expert, if not a god (lol) of procrastination, not to mention its already 4:42 in the morning XD
